Huanglong disease, also known as yellow tip disease, is one of the most important diseases that endanger citrus. At present, Huanglong disease is distributed in citrus producing areas throughout the country, especially in Jiangxi and Guangdong. Young trees can die within 1 to 2 years, and old trees can die or lose fruit within 3 to 5 years.
1 Hazard symptoms
Newly infected plants have many yellow shoots in the crown. There are three types of yellow-tip leaves: uniform yellowing type, mottled yellowing type and deficient type.
After some leaves turn yellow, the diseased leaves start near the main and lateral veins of the leaves, at the base or at the edges, and expand into a yellow-green "dappled" pattern. In the end, all the leaves appear uniform yellowing.
The fruits of diseased trees after the onset of symptoms are generally small, unevenly colored yellow-green, and the cortex is hard.
With the development of the disease, the root system of the diseased tree will gradually rot, and there will be dead shoots on the ground, and even the whole plant will die.
Symptoms will vary under different conditions. The symptoms appearing on the leaves are the main basis for identifying the diseased tree.
2 Pathogens and pathogenesis
Huanglong disease is a bacterial-like body. Pathogens are mostly round or oval. The pathogen is generally transmitted through grafting. The vector insect that transmits the virus is citrus psyllid, which is transmitted in a persistent manner. The cycle of the pathogen in the psyllid is about one month.
3 Prevention methods
Planting citrus in a greenhouse can effectively cut off its propagation path and prevent the spread of diseases and insects. The construction of a fork shed and a thin film greenhouse can effectively prevent Huanglong disease. We should choose to establish disease-free nurseries in non-disease-free areas to cultivate healthy and disease-free seed. In daily management, it is necessary to strengthen the cultivation and management to increase the disease resistance of the plants. To control the amount of fertilizer used, during the growing period of the fruit tree, according to the growth of the tree body, more organic fertilizer is applied.
